Our Story

A story that began with a single wild horse, today thrives with a whole herd of magnificent horses, each carrying the untamed essence of nature. The ranch founder, an entertainment executive, experienced firsthand the incredible benefits that come from building a bond with these majestic wild creatures. It inspired a vision to create an exclusive retreat where more wild horses could find sanctuary, and humans could unearth their potential. Mindful Mustang rapidly grew, welcoming business professionals, musicians and actors as well as teens and elementary school groups in addition to its very special guests from foster family networks and international refugee visitors.

In 2024, Rugged Ranch officially became the Southern California outpost of The Polyvagal Equine Institute (Sonoma) after its founder met, trained and partnered with PVEI founders Dr Rebecca Bailey, Jaycee Dugard and Margie McDonald. The partnership extends our commitment to advancing the PVEI mission of fostering regulation for both humans and animals by conducting PVEI official workshops and trainings in addition to the existing Mindful Mustang sessions.
